The Superman series originated in Cleveland by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in April 1938 (the same year and month my father was born!). This sculpture, by David Deming, was unveiled in 2025 in what is now known as Superman Plaza. I painted this during an outing with the Cleveland Urban Sketchers.
I wanted to capture the sculpture without having its grounding base in the composition … but rather the Cleveland skyline! “Leaping tall buildings in a single bound”!
